Feeding wildlife, especially alligators, is a bad idea. Why? First, some human foods actually harm the digestive systems of wild animals. Although this probably will not be the case with alligators, fed alligators will soon become hooked on handouts, can become concentrated around artificial food sources, and will lose there fear of humans.
Fed alligators will also approach others expecting food. This act will be seen as an “attack” by those that are unfamiliar with the animal. In addition, “tame” wildlife is also at risk of being easily harmed by malicous humans.
Once an alligator, or any animal for that matter, loses it’s fear of humans, there is really only one way to handle the issue (see the above photo).
